Chinese Inspired Shadow Puppets!

6th Grade, 3rd Rotation
Completed Dec. 14th, 2016

Students observed the intricate detail and artistic beauty of Chinese Shadow puppets for inspiration. They then used pattern, texture, and contrast to create their own individual shadow puppet with metallic etching board.











Y-trees Lanscapes

7th & 8th Grade, 1st Semester
Completed Dec. 15th, 2016

Students were inspired by the landscape paintings of Vietnamese artist (and Mrs. Nhu's great-uncle in-law) Dinh Cuong. Students then created a background with a gradated sky and/or mountains. After that they learned the Y-tree technique for painting winter trees with a variety of brush sizes.

Students learned shading techniques and 1-point linear as well as atmospheric perspective to draw their own invented cityscape.

Students learned about Abstract Expressionism and created their own Abstract Expressionist collage using Primary and Secondary color triad schemes.
